Attributes

Every Hero or Character in the Celestial RPG has the following 7 Attributes that define their abilities and power:

  • Strength (STR) – Defines the physical prowess of the character.
  • Agility (AGI) – Defines how well the character can move.
  • Health (HEA) – Defines how much injury the character can take.
  • Method (MET) – Defines the ingenuity of the character.
  • Sense (SEN) – Defines how well the character can perceive the world.
  • Passion (PAS) – Defines how well the character can interact socially.
  • Chi (CHI) – Defines the inner life force of the character and their mystical abilities.

In general, each Character starts with a flat 10 points in each Attribute and then rolls additional bonus d10s based upon their Archetype and Focused Attributes.

Attribute Pool

Each Attribute is represented by an Attribute Pool. The maximum value of this pool defines the maximum power the character has at a fully rested start. This pool is drained over time by using Actions, Trainings, Talents, and similar.

Attribute Power Level (APL)

Each Attribute also has a corresponding Power Level. A Character has a Power Level for every 10 points in the Attribute. The resulting number is used to define the maximum amount of Training that the character can take. It is also used in calculating the outcome of many rolls.

For example, if our character, Neya, has a Strength of 27, then her Strength’s Power Level would be 2. This would limit the amount of Training she can take in Combat Style: Longswords to a 2.

Focused Attribute

An Attribute can also be Focused. During Character Creation, the player gets a total of 3 Attributes that they can Focus. The first focus can be placed into any Attribute the player wishes. The second focus is generally limited to a specific Attribute for an Archetype. The third focus is a set of Attributes that can be chosen from, often limited to a set of secondary Attributes the Archetype would be likely to use.

When an Attribute is Focused, it gains three bonuses. The first is an extra 1d10 for that Attribute during Character Creation. The second is that with every Character Advancement, the Character gains an extra Attribute. The third is that it increase the maximum Training Points that can be placed in a Training specific to that Attribute is increased by one.

An Attribute can only be Focused once.

For example, if Neya has a Focused Strength of 27, she would be able to train her Combat Style: Longswords up to 3.

The Attributes

Strength (STR)

Strength is the measure of the Character’s physical prowess. It is especially important for Strength-based Melee Characters and Strength-based Ranged Characters, as it influences attacking and damage, along with many Combat Talents. Additionally, the greater the Strength Attribute Pool is, the more Empowered a Training is and the more potential attacks you can make during a game.

Strength APL is applied to the following Trainings:

  • Combat Style (STR)
  • Defense Style (STR)
  • Ranged Combat Style: Throwing (STR)

Agility (AGI)

Agility measures how fast and how effectively a Character can respond to a situation. It is especially important for Ranged and Agility-based Melee Characters.

Agility applies to the following Trainings:

  • Combat Style (AGI)
  • Defense Style (AGI)
  • Ranged Style: Handguns (AGI)
  • Ranged Style: Archery (AGI)
  • Armor Training

Health (HEA)

Health measures how much a Character can survive the elements or injury.

The Health Attribute Pool is reduced by any Damage taken or Action that can inflict Health Damage.

Actions that burn Strength, Agility, or Chi can instead choose to burn Health if the Action cannot be completed through their respective Attribute Pools alone.

Characters that have their Health Pool go below 0 are at risk of dying. If they do not reach a Balance in an amount of Rounds equal to their Health APL they die.

Method (MET)

Method is the measure of ingenuity and shows how well the Character can reason and apply logic.

Method applies to the following Trainings:

  • Use Tech
  • Decipher Techscript
  • Disarm Traps
  • Lockpicking
  • Focus (MET)
  • Learnings: All
  • Repair Arms & Armor (MET)
  • Repair Tech
  • Diplomacy (MET)
  • Music (MET)
  • Bluff

Sense (SEN)

Sense measures how well the Character can perceive the world.

Sense applies to the following Trainings:

  • Ranged Style: Longguns (SEN)
  • Ranged Style: Handguns (SEN)

Passion (PAS)

Passion applies to the following Trainings:

  • Barter
  • Perform Rites
  • Oration
  • Music (PAS)
  • Dance
  • Diplomacy (PAS)

Chi (CHI)

Chi is the measure of the Character’s inner life force and the mystical abilities derived thereof.

Chi can empower Attributes or be used as an alternative to an Attribute if the appropriate Talents are chosen.

Chi applies to the following Trainings:

  • Focus (CHI)

In Brief

Attributes define the abilities and power of a Character. Each Attribute has an Attribute Pool that is drained with use and replenished with sufficient rest. Each Attribute can be Focused, thereby increasing the benefits of an Attribute in Character Creation, Advancement, and maximum Training. Each Attribute has a corresponding Power Level which defines how much Training one can receive in Trainings that use the appropriate Attribute.
