Tech Mage Schools
All Tech Mages, in an elaborate guild ritual, are implanted with a chip designating their affiliation and identity with one of the five Schools/Guilds. Once they have been implanted, they are only privy to knowledges available to that school and have their role in society strictly designated and enforced.
Magi
Generalists of the Tech Mages, the Magi were the first school formed and initially had access to all areas of tech knowledge available at that time. While officially divisted of many areas of knowledge with the arise of the other schools, the Magi hold vestiges of their previous knowledge and still possess knowledge of the most destructive of tech, that of the mighty fusion Arc engines and the heaven’s wrath orbital beam technology. Often times Magi are consulted by farmland owners in the matter of crops, as they know how to seed clouds in times of drought as well as construct efficient agricultural systems.
- Specialization: Glass Cannon, Energy Tech, Agriculture
Travellers
Travellers specialize in the knowledge of travel throughout the continent, including across the great deserts, allowing access to orbital eyes by which they plot the most efficient routes for trade. They are expert mechanics and pilots for various tech vessels that they sell the services of to various powers, such as merchants, theurges and nobles.
- Specialization: Mechanics, Pilot, Gunslinger
Slavers
Slavers specialize in the knowledge of Control and Dominion over lesser beings and criminals in the interest of the Order of Heaven, officially. As the most underworld of the guilds, next to the Grafters, they often operate outside of the contraints of law and are often fined heavily by the Hammer arm of the Celestial Church for gross inhumanity and crimes against the defenseless. Yet, their skill in crafting and commanding Golems as well as their ability to track and capture targets makes them useful to all powers.
- Specialization: Golem Mastery, Slavery, Gunslinger
Oracles
Oracles specialize in knowledge and prediction of outcome. With unparralled access to the surveilance technologies of the great cities and hidden data-processing think machines complexes, the power of an Oracle approaches that of the supernatural, often rendering them suspicious to the Temple Sect of the Celestial Church. In truth, their power is wholly tech based.
- Specialization: Knowledge, Scrying
Grafters
The Grafters specialize in the modification of the earthly vessel, often earning them the intense and watchful eye of Temple Sect inquisitors. This guild arose to power when its founders stole a wealth of technology from the Ark of the Frozen North and woke the Abhorrent. While nearly inquisitized into obscurity, the Grafters Guild was able to survive through a clandestine deal made with the preeminent Ledger sect and the Matriarch of the Celestial Church. It is whispered that this guild alone of all tech mages discovered the holy grail of immortality.
- Specialization: Cybernetics, Flesh Modification, Abhorrent Tech
Theurgic Sects
There are five different official sects in the Celestial Church, reflecting a diverse set of beliefs and rites.
Ledger
The founding Sect of the Celestial Church and the Order of Heaven doctrine created after the Fall of the Steel Lord to vindicate the new order and establish the Celestial Church’s authority over the new kingdom. When the Hammer and Palm Sects were formed, the Church bureaucracy and orthodoxy formed the Ledger Sect and, though new sects were acknowledged, the primacy of the Ledger in directing the Church was established. This sect typically finds itself engaged in directing the nobility and guilds in the law – known commonly as the Order of Heaven. In terms of rites practiced, the Ledger directs its priests in rites and roles that best serve the community, whether its consultation of the ancestors, legal advice, tax collection, placation of angry spirits, blessing of ventures, geomantic direction of new construction projects and so on.
